Against the tide I'm so glad I've discovered books by Elizabeth Camden. I highly recommend to read them if you like historical novels about strong, courageous, smart and sometimes funny women. I've read all of her books and so far this is my favorite. The plot of “Against the Tide” is centered around an opium (a narcotic drug) addiction problem in the U.S. that had led to extreme crime and severe suffering in the lates, and from what I could tell this book is historically accurate. The author really did her research.
